Nestled at 555 Greenbrae Dr, Sparks, NV, Taqueria El Taconazo stands out as a beacon for authentic Mexican cuisine. From the moment you step in, the warm hospitality reflects in every interaction—just ask patrons like Melissa Lenz, who praises the place as "the best Mexican food I have had in so long!" The vibrant, fresh flavors of their tacos capture the essence of traditional recipes, each bite brimming with carefully balanced spices and textures that transport you straight to Mexico.
Regulars like Curtis Rusin swear by their salsa, declaring it the finest not only in Reno but rivaling the best he’s tasted anywhere. This salsa, sold by the bottle, serves as a testament to their dedication to quality and flavor depth—a perfect companion to their richly seasoned meats and hand-made tortillas. The variety of hot sauces on the tables invites guests to customize their experience, elevating each dish with subtle layers of heat and tang.
The charm of Taqueria El Taconazo is further enhanced by its down-to-earth vibe. Friendly management and staff make you feel welcomed, like long-lost friends reunited over a hearty meal. While the outdoor patio may have some imperfections, as D C notes, the delicious food and genuine kindness more than make up for it. The casual atmosphere, complemented by live tennis matches on TV, creates a unique, relaxed dining environment that feels like home.
Though some first-time visitors like Bradley have mentioned a dated interior and occasional slow service, these minor details fade quickly when tasted against the backdrop of consistently flavorful, affordable dishes. Whether you crave a quick taco fix or a full Mexican feast, Taqueria El Taconazo promises a satisfying culinary journey filled with authentic tastes, heartfelt service, and an unforgettable salsa experience.
“ This was the best Mexican food I have had in so long! Great people and wonderful food! ”
“ Amazing tacos, but watch your step ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The tacos here are fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and truly worth the visit. The staff was wonderful, even replacing my tacos after I twisted my ankle on the way to the picnic tables. That level of kindness doesn’t go unnoticed — thank you! That said, guests should be aware: the outdoor patio has uneven cement, dirt patches, and no lighting at night, which makes it easy to trip. These are unfinished but very fixable issues, and I hope they’re addressed soon. Once they are, this will be an easy five-star spot all around. ”
“ I’ve been coming to Taqueria El Taconazo since high school — more than 10 years now — and it’s still the first place I go when I visit Reno from San Francisco. The food is consistently amazing, but what makes this spot truly special is the salsa. Hands down the best salsa in Reno (and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere). Pro tip: don’t sleep on it — they sell it by the bottle, and it’s worth stocking up. The burritos are absolutely incredible — flavorful, perfectly balanced, and made with care every time. Even after all these years and plenty of new restaurants opening up, El Taconazo remains my go-to. My parents still live in Reno, so every trip home includes a stop (or an order) here. If you’re in Reno and craving authentic, soul-satisfying Mexican food, El Taconazo is the spot. ”
“ Best restaurant of Mexican food! And the manager and his wife are very friendly! Love that they put the tennis matches on TV ”
“ First time visit. Food was very good and the prices were reasonable. We have tried enough of the menu to make a solid recommendation but the small sample size was outstanding especially the four different hot sauces on the table. Service was kinda slow. I don't know if this is a one off or it regularly this way. The interior is very dated. Clean but not lovingly cared for. Second visit very much like the first. Food is still very good especially when using the hot sauce. Service was was better. Fast ordering and food came up relatively fast. Interior has not changed. ”
